Chapter 8: Organizational Politics
The Political Style Grid uses the three value and three action orientations to help you place yourself- or a colleague – on the matrix. The horizontal dimension designates the value orientation and moves from ‘negative’ to ‘neutral’ to ‘positive’. The vertical dimension indicates that the action orientation in increasing order from ‘responds’ to ‘predicts’ to ‘initiates’.

Politically active managers can use organization politics for good or bad. Any working definition of organization politics should contain these possibilities. Politics in organizations is typically boiled down to self-interest and how it plays out in the organization.
